How we rate UK betting sites & casinos

Every rating on UK-Gamers is an editorial index — a considered judgment on documented criteria, not a paid placement and not a promise of value. This page explains exactly what we measure, what we refuse to publish, and how affiliate links are handled.

First rule: UKGC-licensed only

We only review operators that hold a valid remote licence from the UK Gambling Commission. A licence is not a detail — it requires age and identity verification, protection of customer funds, the full suite of safer-gambling tools and connection to GAMSTOP. We do not review, list or link unlicensed "not on GamStop" sites, because they sit outside these protections and outside UK consumer law. If an operator cannot be found on the UKGC public register, it does not appear here.

The six criteria behind the index

Each operator’s index score (shown out of 10) is a composite of six weighted criteria. For bookmakers we assess:

Odds & margins — how competitive and consistent prices are across popular markets.
Welcome offer & free bets — the structure and fairness of the sign-up offer, read against its terms (never the headline size alone).
Markets & bet builder — depth across football, horse racing, in-play and more.
Payments — debit card, pay by mobile and withdrawal terms (no credit cards, banned since 2020).
App & live betting — quality of the iOS and Android experience.
Trust / UKGC — licensing, transparency and player protection.

For casinos, the framework mirrors this with trust/UKGC, slots and live range, bonuses (free spins and no-deposit terms), payments, withdrawal speed and terms, and support.

What we will not do

We do not invent odds, RTP figures, withdrawal times or "we tested it" claims. Where a number depends on the operator (such as processing times), we point you to the operator’s stated figure rather than making one up.
We do not quote welcome-offer amounts. Offers change and terms differ, so we show them neutrally as "New-customer offer available · 18+ · T&Cs apply" and teach you to read the terms in our offers guide.
We do not let commercial relationships change a ranking (see below).

Scale: 0–10, higher is a stronger overall assessment
Updated: Reviewed as the market and regulations change
