Best betting sites in the UK, ranked

A neutral, data-led ranking of UKGC-licensed bookmakers for players in Great Britain. Every site below holds a remote operating licence from the Gambling Commission, is signed up to GAMSTOP, and offers the standard suite of player-protection tools. We judge on the things that actually matter before you sign up — not on the size of a headline offer.

Index is our editorial score, not a guarantee of value. Offers shown as neutral facts — always read the operator’s current terms. Affiliate links are marked and never affect ranking.

How the ranking works

UK betting is one of the most crowded, closely regulated markets in the world, so a ranking is only useful if it is honest about what it measures. We do not chase the biggest welcome offer, because a large headline figure often comes with heavier wagering requirements or tighter qualifying odds. Instead, every bookmaker is scored against six documented criteria: odds and margins, the welcome offer and free-bet structure, the range of markets and bet builder, payments, the app and live-betting experience, and overall trust and UKGC standing. Those criteria combine into the single editorial index shown above. You can read the full method on our how we rate page.

Only operators with a valid remote licence from the UK Gambling Commission appear here. That licence is not a formality: it requires the operator to verify your age and identity before you play, to offer deposit, loss and session limits, to run reality checks and time-outs, and to be connected to the national self-exclusion scheme, GAMSTOP. We deliberately exclude unlicensed "not on GamStop" sites — they sit outside these protections and outside UK consumer law.

A few facts apply to every site on this page. Gambling winnings are tax-free for players in the UK — the duty falls on operators, not on you. Credit cards have been banned for gambling since April 2020, so deposits are by debit card, pay by mobile, or the usual e-wallets. And since 2025, online slots carry stake limits of £5 per spin for over-25s and £2 for 18–24s. None of that changes how you place a bet, but it is worth knowing before you sign up.

Betting should be entertainment, never income

If it stops being fun, help is available. Every UKGC operator offers deposit, loss and time limits, reality checks and time-outs. You can self-exclude from all licensed sites at once through GAMSTOP, and find free, confidential support at BeGambleAware.org or the National Gambling Helpline on 0808 8020 133. You must be 18 or over.
